Hand-formed, earth-painted, and rich with ancestral heritage.
Welcome a piece of the living Amazon Rainforest into your home. The Mucahuas Collection features rare, traditional earthenware bowls handcrafted by indigenous women artisans of the Amazon Basin.
Rooted in centuries-old tradition, Mucahuas (or Mocahuas) are traditionally created as ceremonial drinking vessels used to serve chicha, a sacred fermented yucca beverage shared during community rituals and celebrations. To create a single bowl, an artisan must embark on a multi-day journey of patience and deep connection to the earth: gathering natural clay from local riverbanks, hand-coiling the shape without a pottery wheel, and meticulously painting intricate geometric symbols and native wildlife—like parrots, toucans, and hummingbirds—using a brush fashioned from human hair.
Colored entirely with natural mineral soils and plant dyes, each bowl is pit-fired and immediately sealed with a hot tree-sap resin glaze, giving it its beautiful, organic sheen.
At Sun and Wing Studio, we celebrate the preservation of these rapidly disappearing indigenous crafts. Because these are handmade from 100% organic materials, every bowl is entirely one-of-a-kind, carrying the distinctive signature, spirit, and story of the woman who shaped it.

Sizing and Styling Guide:
The Scale: Our collection ranges from delicate miniature bowls measuring approximately 8 cm in diameter (perfect as a nightstand ring dish or a crystal holder) to striking statement bowls measuring up to 20 cm in diameter (ideal for tabletop display or stunning wall art arrangements).
How to Style: While historically used for liquids, we recommend these pieces for decorative display to preserve their delicate natural resin finish. Style them on a stack of art books, feature them inside a lit shelving unit, display them as a wall grouping to showcase the interior paintings, or use the smaller sizes on an entryway console to hold your most treasured daily objects.
Care: Wipe gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not submerge in water, place in the microwave, or use dish soaps, as this can strip the natural tree-resin glaze.
