Rainforest tagua nuts are carved and polished into thick moon pieces. Look at that grain! A heavy sunflower bead was added, and they are cute, but overall, these earrings are super lightweight! Tiny, twinkly glass bead sits atop a hibiscus flower.

Fair Trade carved pieces of tagua from Ecuador... but made into beautiful things here in the US. (It's vegetable ivory and plastic free!!).

The Magic of Tagua: Vegetable Ivory

At Sun and Wing, we believe the most beautiful things are grown, not manufactured. That’s why our Moon Collection features Tagua (pronounced TAH-gwa), a remarkable seed from the Phytelephas macrocarpa palm tree found in the South American rainforests.

Why We Love It:

Ethical & Cruelty-Free:

Tagua is often called "Vegetable Ivory" because its color, density, and feel are almost identical to animal ivory. By using Tagua, we support a sustainable alternative that protects wildlife.

Eco-Friendly:

The nuts are harvested only after they have fallen naturally to the ground, meaning no trees are ever harmed.

Rainforest Preservation:

Choosing Tagua jewelry provides a sustainable income for local harvesters, giving them an economic incentive to protect the rainforest rather than clearing it for agriculture.

One-of-a-Kind:

Like a real moon, every Tagua seed has its own unique "grain" and subtle ivory hue. No two carvings in our collection are exactly the same.

Care Tip: Because Tagua is a natural organic material, it loves to stay dry! To keep your moons glowing, simply wipe them with a soft cloth and avoid wearing them in the shower or pool.
